What to Expect
______________

Therapy requires a commitment of time, effort and resources - invest them well!

FIRST CONTACT:

I know firsthand the importance of finding and working with the right therapist, and that it may take a few attempts. To allow opportunity for you to 'meet' me and preliminarily ascertain whether we will be a good fit, feel free to contact me for a free initial telephone consultation.
FIRST APPOINTMENT:

At your first scheduled appointment, we will talk about your history, what led you to seek therapy, and what you hope to achieve during our time together. If it becomes apparent to you, or I, that your best interests might be better served by another therapist, I will offer appropriate referrals.

COURSE OF THERAPY:

As we continue in therapy, I will regularly check in with you to ascertain how therapy is progressing for you and allow for feedback. Inviting open conversation about the therapy process itself is not only important for a successful therapeutic alliance, but ultimately for a successful therapeutic outcome.

TERMINATION:

For some therapy is a short-term endeavor and for others a much longer one. The duration of therapy depends on many factors including how long standing or severe an issue is, social support, regularity of sessions and personal commitment to the process. At some point in time though therapy will come to an end (as it should) or be put on hold for some reason. It is an inevitable part of the therapy process. When the time arrives, it is my hope we would openly discuss termination as this can be therapeutic in and of itself.
